Cristiano Ronaldo has surpassed Kuwait's Bader Almotawaa by making his 197th appearance for Portugal.
Cristiano Ronaldo has earned the 197th cap of his extraordinary career to become the most-capped male player in football history.
By starting for Portugal in their UEFA EURO 2024 qualifier against Liechtenstein, the 38-year-old moved ahead of Kuwaiti stalwart Bader Almotawaa, with whom he had previously shared the record.
Ronaldo also struck twice in the match to further boost his already-unmatched haul of international goals to 120.
"Records are always positive," said the man himself ahead of this landmark fixture. "It’s my motivation and as you know, I like to break records. Being the most capped player in history, I have to confess that it is something that leaves me quite proud."
